I thought I would share some of my fantastic fundraising ideas to inspire the readers of this article to come up with some creative ways to raise cash for charity. One tip is not to limit yourself to one event – why not have two or more? I am a table tennis player in a local league and back in 2002 when Sport Relief was first held one of our players organised a twelve hour table tennis marathon and I took over and did likewise in 2004. It turned out to be one of my best money making fundraising ideas. As the first marathon raised £721, I then set myself a goal of £1,000 which given we were and still are a very small local league was quite a target and I came frustratingly close with £950 raised. So I tried again in 2006, but given the economic situation of the country and the fact that the levels of sponsorship we were getting in were obviously dropping as a result, I had to put on my thinking cap.
I therefore decided to hold a small series of mini-events in the run-up. These events did not raise a great deal, but they gave me a boost when it came to the main event as we already had some funds in the bank and without them I would not have met my target – I raised £200 before the marathon which turned into £1,156. I had met my goal and those smaller events had made a difference.
For the smaller events I organised, I did not limit myself to solely table tennis. I held a darts and quiz night which became a popular fixture over the next few years and attracted all sections of the sports centre – not just the table tennis crowd. On one memorable occasion and thanks to several e-mails I sent I managed to have a round of true and false questions set for me by several celebrities including Julian Lloyd Webber, Edwina Currie and Michael Fish! A tennis club compete in our table tennis league so another good idea I had was to set up a four part challenge cup match – we played against each other at table tennis and tennis both home and away and added the scores up. The winners got their hands on the Cup – and a rematch was part of my next charity campaign.
In conclusion, if you are holding a fundraiser why not try a smaller event in the lead-up – even if a simple event such as a quiz only raises a little, it is also a fantastic opportunity to market your main event. Try to draw in the crowds – don’t make your event too specific. And also don’t be afraid to try and get help from some famous friends – some celebrities (or more likely their people) will say no, or not respond, but others will only be to glad to help like my famous question-setters mentioned earlier who gave my event a buzz and I have also had signed items for auction donated to me by some very famous sporting personalities. However don’t e-mail just a few – be prepared to e-mail several and then you will get a good result.

Are you considering how a London SEO company can help your business? Search engine optimisation is the task of improving your website’s rankings in the major search engines by tweaking several factors of your site both onsite and off. These modifications will make your site more search engine friendly and allow the search engines to better define what your site is about. Some websites are very badly optimised and basically need to be redone completely; while others may only need a few small modifications to rise up in the search engine ranks.
When doing SEO, or making your site more search engine friendly, it is important that you do not overlook the human visitors. While you want the search engines to appreciate your site to move it further up the rankings, you also want visitors to stay on your web page and click through to your products or services – therefore you should not focus on adding too many keywords as this can make the text seem unnatural. Knowing how to do this properly involves a learning curve, so usually it is better to hire an SEO company for the job, leaving you time to run your business.
